RIVER MEDICINE
Our lymph are the rivers of our body. When there is stagnation, or a dam in the river, it affects every other ecosystem in our body. All of life depends on this cyclical, uninterrupted flow, and lymphatic congestion is often the first or root cause of larger imbalances that unfold within the body.
The First Harvest
Every year, before the thaw but well within the hopeful glimpses of returning light, I visit the towering giants that stand like sentinels along the flowing waterways. Populus trichocarpa, our native Cottonwood, is a welcomed friend, and I am greeted by the resinous honey-sweet scent of swelling buds. The deeply furrowed trunks rise like skyscrapers, some many feet wide, and I run my hands over their craggy bark tenderly.
HAGALAZ- ᚺ
What is the nature of destruction? Rune of winter skies. Your first line marks the beginning. Your second the road we want to take. And the line between is how we get there. Slanted, not straight, and this too is the nature of hagalaz. A rune of passage of passage from one place to the next. A rune where we are confronted with our past and patterns. Our subconscious is the oceanic terrain we descend to as the moon ascends and the tide laps gently at our feet.
