ANTI-VIRAL FORMULA

Raw propolis, Lomatium dissectum (Fernleaf Biscuitroot) fresh root^, Alnus rubra (Red Alder)^ fresh bark and catkins, organic cane alcohol.

^wild harvested

2 oz

Dosage: For general immune system care take 1 dropperful (2ml) 2-3 times per day by mouth or in a splash of water. With the onset of respiratory symptoms, take small doses every few hours, working up to larger doses.

Propolis translates to “defense of the city”. Used for thousands of years in folk medicine, propolis is the immune system of the colony. Created from saliva, beeswax, and tree resins, this magical substance seals and protects the hive. Propolis is strongly anti-bacterial/anti-microbial/anti-viral and can support the human immune system just as it protects the hive.

In the spring, Lomatium roots ooze a milky, resinous sap that when used medicinally, supports deep healing from upper respiratory infections and other viral conditions. There is a long, documented history of use by indigenous peoples of the Great Basin (Washoe).

The aromatic resins in biscuitroot are excreted through the mucosa of the lungs, thinning mucous, aiding lung cleansing and acting as an expectorant. These same compounds have been shown to limit replication or shedding of viruses and appear to shorten the duration of infection.

Lomatium is best used in conjunction with a lymphatic stimulant to support the removal of waste products and avoid the hive like rash that some folks can get from nitrogenous waste product overload/viral die off. When used with supportive allies, no such rash occurs. Included in this formula is Red Alder, an incredibly under-rated and abundant medicine of the northwest.

Kiva Rose writes:

“Having a range of actions extending from alterative to lymphatic to pain reliever/blood mover to astringent to powerful anti-bacterial agent, there's a reason this tree has been considered an overall tonic by many indigenous tribes. When it comes down it though, the medicine is all about the transformation and nourishment of the body's vital fluids, whether through lymph, blood, bile, digestive fluids, urine etc”

Alder itself is strongly anti-viral and balancing to microbial infections, but I agree with Kiva that Alder is always the first ally I reach for when treating stagnation and sluggish lymph. Alder gets the waste moving and restores harmony and fluidity to the body.

This formula is best taken in drop doses repeatedly through out the day. Starting gently and working up to larger doses will help you more in the long run than gulping it down.

I use this blend when I notice the onset of symptoms although taking it in the midst of infection is fine too.

**Out of respect for the slow growing roots of Lomatium, I advise this be used with respect and taken only when needed. This medicine is very small batch due to the limited quantity of propolis and lomatium root that I harvest.
